Easy-Does-It Steps in Making a Floral Christmas Topiary

Holiday season is here, and it’s time to ransack your house for old Christmas decorations to adorn your home. The challenge, it seems, is how to make every home more dashing each Christmas. If you’re tired of the same old décor that you put up every year, it’s time to channel your inner Marsha Stewart and create your own Christmas decoration.

In the last post, you’ve read about how to make an elegant Christmas centerpiece. Now, this post is all about making your very own Christmas topiary. By the way, topiary can be either a real tree or fake one that’s shaped into a different figure. In this case, we’re going to use flowers to make a Christmas tree.

It’s best to use existing fresh flowers you have at home. But if you don’t have them, you can order from your florist all the flowers you’ll need. To make it even easier for you, you can even go online to shop for blooms. Just make sure you’re dealing with a reputable online florist to get the best flowers and service.

What you’ll need:

Cone-shaped floral foam

Floral foam base

Wooden dowel rod

Vase or flower pot

Small Christmas balls

White or red floral stems

  1. Create your topiary base. You can get any kind of vase or flower pot for this purpose. Cut the floral foam base to fit the inside bottom of the vase or pot.
  2. Insert the dowel into the center of the floral foam. Be careful not to push it all the way through. Place the other end of the rod into the floral foam base.
  3. Cut flower stems to about an inch or two below the blooms. Push the stems into the cone-shaped foam. Start at the bottom and work your way upwards. Red roses and carnations are perfect for Christmas topiary because of their festive colors. You may also use flowers of another color (white is a good option), but make sure the blooms are big enough. This way, you don’t have to put in a lot of flowers to fill in the floral foam.
  4. Randomly insert Christmas balls into the tree. Secure them in place with hot glue if needed.

Topiaries are nice accents to any home. You can place them on the table as a centerpiece or outside the house to welcome your guests. They’re also excellent gift ideas for the holidays.

  1. Most people prefer silk flowers in making table centerpieces, but for this project, use fresh flowers to bring more character. Red is a good option when you want something festive. Roses or Poinsettias shall do the trick. You will also need some foliage to cover the oasis ring (you can get this at various floral supplies stores). Holly (available in plant nurseries in the Philippines) or ferns may be used, but any vine is just as good.
  2. Cover the base of the oasis ring with foil to prevent water from seeping out. Place a large candle, variegated small fruits and candy canes in the center of the ring. Spray paint some of the small fruits in gold.
  3. Place the foliage on the oasis ring. Start at the base and work your way to the center.
  4. Cut the stems of the roses to about two to three inches. Intersperse them around the foliage.

And there you go… Your elegant Christmas floral decoration is done.

Fresh flowers can be used to embellish your personalized Christmas decoration. Working with fresh flowers can be tricky, but if you know how to prolong flowers’ life, there’s no need to worry. And if you want to send flowers as gifts this Christmas, just go online and search for the bouquet that you need.

What to Write on a Get Well Soon Card

Being under the weather is no fun at all. Spending days lying in bed can surely make anyone feel gloomy and even more sluggish.

Not sure about what to write? Here are some ideas:

  • Sending a big bunch of bright wishes for you to feel better soon!
  • If I told you to “Get Well Soon,” it wouldn’t be soon enough. Get Well Now.
  • You have places to go, people to see, lots of fun times to be enjoyed. Get well soon.
  • Here’s a gift to give you a lift! Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
  • Get well soon, so I can come over and bother you.”
  • Heard that you’ve been under the weather. Hope things clear up soon.
  • You have places to go, people to see, lots of fun times to be enjoyed. Get well soon.
  • Be on the mend, my friend!
  • Hope my surprise gives you a reason to smile, and you feel better. Get Well Soon!
  • Sending loads of love your way for a speedy recovery!

Oftentimes, it’s best to just write a generic message on a get well soon card that comes with the flowers. But remember not dwell too much on the sickness or injury. What Should You Write on a Sympathy Card?

Most people struggle with words when expressing sympathy. It’s just plain difficult coming up with the right words to express deep compassion.

More often than not, we hear people say “I know that you’re going through.” This canned expression comes across as downplaying a person’s sense of loss. It also sounds a bit insincere because, really, you don’t know what the other person is going through. And in case you do, the expression would still be highly inappropriate.

Go to philippineflowermart.comThen there’s the sympathy card, the one that comes with the sympathy flowers you ordered. And just like in writing romantic card messages, this too can be tricky. How exactly do you show your compassion without sounding artificial?

Here are some ideas that you can write on a sympathy card:

  • Words do an injustice in explaining how much we will miss _______. (He or she) will remain very alive in our memories and admiration.
  • Please accept these flowers and hear the words we are not able to speak.
  • May you take comfort in knowing there is one more angel above us.
  • May the peace which comes from the memories of love shared comfort you now and in the days ahead.
  • This card isn’t meant to do anything for you but let you know that I am thinking of you at this time.  I am sorry for your loss.
  • I am praying for you to get through this time with peace that comes from the knowledge that God loves you and will take care of you.
  • “No one can truly know what you are experiencing in this time of loss. Please accept my condolences and know that you are in my thoughts.”
  • Words are not enough to convey my sympathies at a time like this but I just wanted to say I’ll be by your side.
  • I am at a loss for words. I know there is nothing for me to say that will make your loss easier. I hope you can understand what I can’t put to words.
  • I want so much to help you and be there for you. Yet I know nothing can fix this heartache. Please know that you are not alone. You are continually in my thoughts and prayers. I want to help in any way I can.

Sympathy card wordings can uplift people’s spirits, especially at times of loss. In addition to your kind words, make sure that you also give the right flower for the occasion. Search the Internet for sympathy flowers to give.
