Top Selling Flowers and Their Meanings

GerberasLet’s just say, for the purpose of this discussion, that your one of those people who turn flowers when they cannot think of anything else to buy as a present. Well, flowers are good choices. But, do you really give the perfect kind of flowers on a special occasion? You wouldn’t want to receive an odd stare from the receiver as if they are saying “Why? Why these?”

Let us recall the three top selling flowers and find out what do they actually symbolize.

Gerberas

As we know, Gerberas belong to the Daisy family. They are as bright and colorful as the sizzling sunshine, and are simple and easy choices to light up one’s day. Generally, daisies are symbols of innocence and purity, but because of the vibrant variety of colors of Gerberas, they also signify cheerfulness. Specific colors like ruby red, bright pink, pure white and sunny yellow are perfect for merry occasions.

LiliesLilies

These flowers have come far, dating way back from 1580 B.C. Lilies have plenty of symbolisms, depending on which type of lily. Overall, lilies are very much associated with funerals because it symbolizes the innocence of the soul of the departed. Following the many kinds of lilies, are also many meanings. Not all are connected with death, fortunately. For one, lilies of the valley signify humility and devotion. This kind of lily is the one given during the 2nd wedding anniversary. Virgin Mary’s purity is symbolized by white lilies, for it also represents chastity and virtue. Other types of lilies like Peruvian lilies are characterized with friendship while White Stargazers are associated with sympathy. Pink Stargazers, on the other hand, represent wealth and prosperity.

RosesRoses

Placing in at third of the top selling flowers, roses also have a variety of colors, wherein every color has its own meaning. The most popular, the red rose, is very known for its symbolism of love, which explains why it has been the most common gift given on occasions like anniversaries and Valentine’s Day. It is said that a single rose will represent love, and a whole bunch of red roses mean unconditional love. It would be a flattering moment if you any of you girls receive around fifty stems of these. The pink rose signifies gratitude, while white is easily correlated to purity. The lesser popular types of rose, orange, yellow and lavender, hold their own meanings too. Orange is for desire, yellow is for friendship, and lavender for enchantment. I’ve seen pictures of these roses and I wonder why they are less popular; I find them very fascinating.

We said it before that flowers speak their own language, and that they possess their own meanings. That is why there are right flowers for certain occasions. And because these three are the top selling flowers, there is no hassle looking for these kinds. You just need to identify which of the three suits your particular occasion the best. Good luck!

Good Luck Flower Charms

We all have our own lucky charms. It can be in a form of a bracelet, a coin, a blessed rosary, or even your lucky underwear. All of those bring us different kinds of charms and luck, depending on the situation. Whether they really do give us luck, we can never be sure, but it’s worth taking the risk. It’s not as if we’ll lose something if our lucky charm doesn’t do its job.

But if we can’t have the luck, why not give it to others? Usually, females believe in luck; that the positive outcome you receive is because of the good energy emitted by their lucky thingamajig. And guess what? Even flowers can be good luck charms! They can! Well, they are believed to. So why not try to give some to your mom, sister, grandma, girlfriend, or your girlfriend’s mom… You know, for luck.

Try bringing these (but make sure they still look nice):

Lotus

Lotus

The Lotus flower goes way back in the ancient times. In contrast with its pure beauty, this kind of flower grows in muddy water (Eep!). What makes it more beautiful is that it totally signifies purity. During the nights, it closes and sinks below the water, and would only rise again when morning breaks. It is as if the beauty is being reserved and not abused. Not only does a Lotus flower bring good luck, but it also symbolizes long life and honor.

Magnolia

Magnolia is a type of flower that blooms in several colors, depending on the variety. Each color holds its own meaning, which narrows us down to the Green and Purple Magnolias. Not only are they believed to grant wishes for luck, but both species are also associated with bringing good health. The Green Magnolia just has an additional characteristic; it symbolizes joy as well. Magnolias are considered powerful because they are also related with life force.

Chrysanthemum

Also known as Mums, they are considered to be noble flowers in Asian culture. They are used as objects of meditation. They are known to bring people good luck because Mums are associated with life of ease and are believed to possess the Yang energy.

Your mother or wife may not bring these flowers everywhere they go, but it can give out the positive energy they need for an event, or a competition, or a date… anything. Whatever the event is, these flowers will be a visual reminder that luck might (or most definitely) be going not only for the ladies, but absolutely for the males too.

Flower Crafts for Kids

It is undoubtedly true that flowers are one of the most beautiful things here on earth… that grows naturally, if I may add. The more we familiarize ourselves with the greatness of flowers, the more we find uses for them. Flowers are not only pretty as ornaments themselves, but they look great when incorporated with other things too. They will make some of our creations livelier, brighter, and cooler in the eyes.

The best part? It’s as easy as making instant pancakes. Even children can do it! Do you want to let them try? Here are some of handy crafts that involve flowers, which I am sure the kids will enjoy doing.

Pressed Flowers

Scissors

Glue

Construction Papers

Plastic Wrap

Puncher

Thread / Ribbon

Before you begin making the picture frame, make sure you have pressed flowers already. You need to do it two weeks in advance. Pick some colorful wild flowers, and place it on a paper towel. Get a heavy book, open it, put the flower on the center and let it press for two weeks.

As soon as the flowers are ready, you can start getting more creative! Prepare two colorful construction papers. Cut an oval or rectangular shape in the middle of the papers. On the first paper, spread glue and place a plastic wrap on top. Now you can arrange the pressed flowers in the middle of the plastic wrap. When already arranged, dot glue on the edge of the plastic wrap as well as on the flowers. Lay another plastic wrap on top, and again, spread glue on the edge. The last layer will be the second construction paper. Let everything dry, then you can punch holes on top of the frame so you can place a ribbon or thread, which will enable you to hang and display your art on a wall.

First off, make the flower body of person or animal. Use the flowers as the head, then stems and leaves for other body parts. You can glue them onto a card board or any flat surface. Once settled, kids can be creative as they can, using petals as clothes, or grass for Hawaiian costumes! Your children can interchange the colors of the petals. Take pictures of it and you and your kids can print it out- make it into a collage even!

What You Need:

Fresh Flowers

Needle and Thread

For this, you should have medium sized flowers. (Make sure they are fully opened.) Now, for safety precautions, it is advised that the adult handle all steps that will feature the needle. You can now sew the flowers together in a round form, like a necklace. Interchange flowers with different colors and sizes. Go wild! Close the leis by tying the thread in a knot. Just remember, since you are using fresh flowers, they will not last long. You can use artificial ones if you want it to last longer.

Flowers can alter your mood positively. It may be wise that your kids get to appreciate these things as early as now. Let them use it creatively; do not allow them to see flowers only as “visually appealing”. Make them realize that flowers are better if you can actually hold them, smell them and play with them.

Aren’t flowers a hoot?
